Build it into the drills you already run. During ground balls, have every player do a quick reset after every rep, good or bad: a physical cue, one breath, ready position. During batting practice, have hitters say their cue word before each swing. Add a 2-minute huddle at the end of practice: What challenged us? What did we do well when it got hard? That's mental training, and it costs you almost no time.
Start with connection, not correction. "I can see how much that mattered to you." Give her a moment. Then help her find her next job: "What's your next rep?" Fix the mechanics later, at practice, when she's calm. Players remember how you treated them after a mistake far longer than the mistake itself.
Give your team one shared reset routine and practice it until it's automatic. When everyone knows RELEASE, RESET, ATTACK, a teammate can say "Reset, we got you" and the player knows exactly what to do. Teach your dugout to pick each other up within 5 seconds of a mistake. Confidence spreads, and so does panic. Your team gets to choose which one.
Go first. Share a time you struggled as a player or coach. Then make it fun with quick, low-stakes challenges like card towers or bottle flips, where everyone fails a few times and practices resetting. Let players pick their own cue words. Players use what they help create.
